Media Release: Happy World Plumbing Day – 11 March

World Plumbing Day is celebrated internationally on 11 March every year.

World Plumbing Day seeks to highlight the vital role that plumbers play in maintaining and protecting the health and safety of the community through the provision of clean drinking water and the appropriate management of waste.

The plumbing industry makes an extraordinary contribution to human health, the environment and prosperity, however it is minimally recognised.

In recent years, we have seen an increase in awareness of water and energy usage, and the plumbing industry is proactive in promoting the accurate and timely management of water supplies. Population growth coupled with an increase in urbanisation reveals that management of water supplies and waste water services is of paramount importance in Australia.

Plumbing plays one of the most vital roles in managing the health and safety of the local community, as well as the wider community. It is for this reason that it is so important that plumbers are publicly recognised for their hard work and long studied skills.

An event initiated by the World Plumbing Council, World Plumbing Day is an opportunity to recognise the important work that plumbers do to maintain and improve the health and safety of communities all over the world.

March 11 is marked by celebrations, competitions, seminars, and activities all around the world. People from within and outside the plumbing fraternity come together to learn, share knowledge, build connections and find opportunities to collaborate to improve the quality of, and access to, fresh water and safe sanitation.

Events will be held around the nation celebrating plumbers and the positive impact they have on the health and safety of the community. On Friday 8 March, Bob Geldof was the key speaker at the Master Plumbers Western Australia Luncheon to launch a life changing project to deliver sustainable plumbing and sanitation solutions to remote communities around Australia.

The day aims to spread awareness of the importance of plumbing and plumbers in protecting public health and improving amenity, as well as celebrating all the important work plumbers have done to improve the world.

According to the World Plumbing Council:

  • Over 1 billion people gained access to piped water supplies between 2000 and 2015.
  • The global population of people who used safely managed sanitation services increased from 28% in 2000 to 39% in 2015.
  • Between 2000 and 2015 the number of people defecating in the open declined from 1,229 to 892 million, an average of 22 million people per year.
  • A 4-minute shower can now use as little as 24 litres of water.

It is important that consumers are aware that by using an unlicensed plumber is illegal and could be putting their home and family at risk as they may not comply with important regulations.

The easiest way to ensure your plumbing work is completed safely and complies with the industry standard is to find a licensed plumber. Find a Master Plumber is a database made up of a list of MPA members who can perform licensed plumbing work, which can be filtered by location and speciality.
